Ford backdates the Mustang for a bit of ‘80s nostalgia

Shortly before launching the 2025 Ford Mustang, the company has revealed a rather unusual OEM styling option for it. Called the FX Package, it can be used to transform your coupe or convertible into a lookalike of the third-gen "Fox Body" Mustang produced from 1978 until 1993.

This treatment is exclusive to the GT Premium spec armed with a 5.0-liter V8; all other versions are not supported. The car comes painted in a shade known as the Adriatic Blue Metallic, which is close to the classical turquoise Mustang color but not identical. A number of elements are offset in Oxford White, including the 19-inch wheels, “5.0” and “GT” badges, radiator grille logo and taillight bezels. There’s also some nostalgic white lettering at the top of the rear window done in a typeface Ford used for Fox Body Mustangs of the 1980s.

Customers opting for a Performance package in addition to the FX will be getting white grille accents and special wheels with their purchase. As for the interior, it features leather seats with tartan inserts (available for both the standard seats and Recaro buckets), and contrast stitching on the dashboard, the steering wheel, the center console and the door panels. You can also choose from several safety belt colors and switch to a retro digital dash UI as seen in the gallery here. One last bit of nostalgia comes in the form of a passenger-side dash badge that says “Mustang GT”.
