McLaren F1 designer unveils a Le Mans-inspired supercar

Gordon Murray and his newly created Special Vehicles (GMSV) division have come to the Monterey Car Week with a new supercar called the Le Mans GTR. It shares the underpinnings with the GMA T.50 and pays homage to the McLaren F1 GTR which Murray himself designed back in the era. All prices are private, but all units are already sold out, anyway.

The idea to create the Le Mans GTR came from Joe Macari of Performance Cars London. The exotic vehicle collector asked Murray how he would imagine a modern-day Le Mans prototype racer. Murray came up with a concept in just a few weeks and got his first order. In a nod to the endurance marathon, the total production quantity will be capped at 24 units.

A look at the car immediately lets you know that it was inspired by the Longtail vehicles of the late 20th century. Despite being based on the T.50 chassis, the Le Mans GTR features its own body kit, headlights, a redesigned body with a wider track and new wheels shod in Michelin Sport Cup 2 tires. It also benefits from stiffer engine mounts, lighter suspension and a modified exhaust system.

The interior looks ostensibly track-focused, but Murray claims it’s comfortable enough for casual driving. The dashboard, the pedals and most of the switches have been reworked from the T.50 and new bucket seats have been installed.

The customer deliveries will begin in 2026.
