Honda unveils two Civic-based heavy off-roaders

Honda has come to the SMMT Test Day with two custom-built Civic Type R hot hatches. One of these has been tuned for cross-country rallying, while the other one packs 406 horsepower (303 kW) under the hood.

The rally-raider build is called OveRland, and is a creation of Ralph Hosier Engineering. Compared to the production car, the OveRland sports a suspension lift (229 mm / 9 inches of road clearance), enormous fender flares, improved trailing arms, and a larger wheel span.

Unlike the first one, the other Civic Type R is street-legal. Designed by Team Dynamics Motorsport, it had its standard engine boosted from 320 hp (239 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb×ft) of torque to 406 hp (303 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb×ft). The performance increase owes itself to new intake and exhaust systems, an ECU remap, and the installation of a sports-grade catalyst. The car also boasts 19-inch wheels, as well as Eibach Pro springs and rear camber links.

Both vehicles are unique, and Honda stays silent regarding production opportunities.
