Mahindra Thar Mk2 evokes cheap Wrangler vibes

Mahindra has unveiled the second generation of its Thar SUV. The car looks like a budget-friendly Jeep wrangler, and Indian media speculate that it might cost one-fifth of that car’s price.

At least on paper, the Thar appears just about as practical as the Wrangler it strives to imitate. It also ships with a choice between hard and soft top, as well as quick-release doors. Original exterior features include the radiator grille, the LED taillights that sit lower than those of the Wrangler, and a plastic body kit more reminiscent of older Jeep models.

The cabin greets with a classical dashboard and a route computer squeezed in between the instruments. Climate control, cruise control and 7-inch infotainment system are all present.

The car ships with two turbocharged engines to choose from: gasoline (150 hp / 112 kW) and diesel (130 hp / 97 kW). Both can be obtained with six-speed manual or automatic transmission, and the momentum is distributed between both axles.
