Next Peugeot 5008 generation unveiled with specs, set to go on sale this fall

The new generation of the Peugeot 5008 mid-size crossover SUV runs on the same STLA Medium platform as its younger cousin, the 3008, and has some of the same powertrain options. It looks similar, too, with a slight upmarket twist to justify the pricing.

Specifically, the new 5008 has its own front fascia, sculpted sides, a nearly level roof and less slanted c-pillars. Adaptive headlights and 19-inch wheels are included as standard.

Coming in at 4.79 meters (187.1 inches) long, the car has 2.9 meters (113.3 inches) between the axles. The interior houses three seat rows with two adjustable seats in the middle row and a feature called Easy Access to let those sitting in the back get in and out of the car easier. Depending on how many seats are folded, the trunk size ranges from 259 to 1,815 liters (9.15 –64.1 cubic feet).

In the top trim, the driver takes advantage of the company’s signature Panoramic i-Cockpit system comprising a 21-inch, quasi-floating curved display and a rather compact steering wheel. The base trim makes do with two standalone 10-inch displays. The infotainment system has supports more web-based services and voice commands and offers i-Toggles – configurable buttons that you can map to whatever you use the most often in your car. Mitsubishi promises some ChatGPT-powered features, too.

In its cheapest version, the electric e-5008 gets a single front-axle motor with 214 PS (211 hp / 157 kW) and a 73-kWh battery pack rated for 500 km (310 miles) of range. Paying extra gets you a superior 231-PS (228-hp / 170-kW) motor and a bigger 98-kWh battery for 660 km (410 miles) of manufacturer-stated range.

The top trim version has four driven wheels thanks to a 109-PS (108-hp / 80-kW) electric motor on the rear axle. It also makes use of the bigger battery, but only gets 500 km (310 miles) out of it due to the higher power consumption. At any rate, charging from 10 to 80% takes roughly 30 minutes.

Two ICE variants are coming to the market as well. One of them is a mild hybrid that combines a 1.2-liter turbo three-pot with a six-speed DCT for 136 PS (134 hp / 100 kW). It is expected to be available in the autumn. The other one is a plug-in hybrid that gets a petrol engine with 150 PS (148 hp / 110 kW) and a motor with 125 PS (123 hp / 92 kW). This version can cover up to 80 km (50 miles) in all-electric mode, Peugeot says, but it won’t be released until 2025.
