U.S. tuning company Gunther Werks has attended this year’s Monterey Car Week with its most sophisticated project to date. Called the GWX, it’s an exclusive take on the Porsche 911 (993) coming out in just three units that will be offered directly to V.I.P. Porsche enthusiasts, so don’t bother asking about the price.
The heart of the build arguably comes in the form of a carefully tuned 4.0-liter, naturally aspirated flat-six engine rated at 446 PS (440 hp / 328 kW) and 434 Nm (320 lb-ft) of torque. The company points out that it upgraded the block with sliding throttle body plates for a faster pedal response. It’s unknown how much faster than stock it is, but there’s no doubt that this 911 is a sporty ride, and then some.
The bodywork is almost all carbon-fiber and purpose-designed for the project. The same goes for Candy Purple, the finish that GW invented for this trio of sports cars. The body kit is rather bold and includes new bumpers, a rear diffuser and a tall fixed rear wing. The engine lid has an air scoop, and the five-Y-spoke wheels provide some nice contrast with their off-white finish.
The interior is mainly trimmed with black and white leather. Artificial suede covers the steering wheel and the headliner, while numerous carbon-fiber trims create a sporty ambience.
According to Peter Nam, the CEO of Gunther Werks, the GWX is a taste of what’s to come, so we can look forward to more projects like this one.
