From a distance, you just might mistake this replica for the Mercedes-Sauber C8

A homegrown car with late 1980-s era Groupe C looks is up for grabs in the United States right now. Its owner and creator claims it was inspired by the Mercedes-Sauber racer and wants U.S. $75,000 for it, although you could try making an offer.

The mid-engined Frankencar has no identification signs that would let us say with certainty what it was before the conversion. There is a badge saying ‘GT-R’ on one of the fenders, but how relevant it is is anyone’s guess. Judging by the license plate, the mod is street-legal.

A 5.7-liter GM V8 provides the power and features HEI ignition, an Edelbrock carburetor, Cherry Bomb dual tailpipes, and other performance-friendly mods. A couple of air intakes located directly in front of the engine and on the front apron provide the necessary cooling.

Interior highlights include AC, interior heating, and a sound system with Bluetooth support. The OEM parts, including the Autometer dash cluster, the honk, the windshield wiper and the headlamps, are all reportedly in good working order. The owner emphasizes that the car lends itself perfectly to daily driving.

The real Mercedes-Sauber C8 (see video) debuted at the 24 Hours of Le Mans 36 years ago.
