Bugatti announces Bolide production for 2024

After unveiling a prototype in 2020, Bugatti has confirmed plans to launch its Bolide racer into production. A total of 40 hypercars will be made and offered starting from €4 million in three years’ time.

As a pure track weapon with a carbon-fiber monocoque cabin, the car weighs in at 1,240 kg (2,734 lbs) without liquids. An eight-liter W16 burns racing fuel for 1,850 PS (1,824 hp / 1,360 kW) and 1,850 Nm (1,364 lb-ft) of torque.

However, while the above is true for the prototype, the final production car will be tuned to accept normal ON98 gas, and will therefore be capped at 1,600 horsepower and 1,600 Newton-meters of torque, just like the Centodieci and the Chiron Super Sport. It will weigh around 1,450 kg (3,200 lbs) with the liquids in and thus boast a power-to-weight ratio of 1 hp per 900 grams.

The design study has an FIA-approved fire extinguishing system that the production car will get, too. It will also feature six-point safety harnesses and HANS protection for the head and neck.

Buyers will be treated to a special track day programme, Bugatti says.

Later this year, Croatia-based carmaker Rimac will assume control over Bugatti, and will help it design its first all-electric hypercar.
