Skoda is the new ‘affordable’, Seat the new ‘premium’: VAG readjusts brand presentation

Volkswagen AG has announced a forthcoming readjustment in the market positioning of its subordinate brands. Apparently, the company is concerned many of its products occupy niches that are too similar or competing with each other.

To eliminate the issue, the company plans to elevate the Seat brand name to a ‘premium’ status close to that of Audi. The management believes high-end Seat vehicles – especially those from the Cupra line – will be worthy rivals of such brands as Alfa Romeo.

The Skoda, on the other hand, will be brought down a notch to be able to compete with the likes of Renault/Dacia and Kia. The marque will also begin targeting Eatern Europe as its primary market.

Needless to mention, these changes will entail price shifts across the board, with the lower-end Skodas going down and the higher-end Seats going further up.
