Europe’s smallest Toyota is a GR Sport hybrid now

The supermini CUV Toyota Aygo X now shares a hybrid powertrain with the Yaris lineup – a considerable upgrade over its original 1.0-liter three pot. It will also be obtainable with a GR Sport package when it ships in late 2025.

The original crossover made 72 PS (71 hp / 53 kW). The new one churns out 116 PS (114 hp / 87 kW). This slashes the 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint time from 15.5 seconds to just under ten. Hybrid mode fuel consumption averages at 3.8 liters per 100 km, which roughly corresponds to 62 miles per gallon. Toyota says the battery cells are arranged in two rows under the rear bench seat, but doesn’t clarify whether all-electric driving is possible at all.

The facelifted car still has the same wheelbase of 2,430 mm (95 inches), but the front overhang is now 76 mm (3 inches) longer. This forced the design team to revise the front-end styling, changing the hood cover, the radiator grille and the headlights.

Opting for the GR Sport package nets you special exterior trim accents, a blacked-out hood and exclusive wheels. Sporty driving may not be on the menu, but Toyota says it tweaks shocks, springs and power steering in this version for a little added handling sharpness.

Inside, the 7-inch dashboard and the climate control panel have been redesigned and noise proofing has been improved all around.
