Xiaomi YU7 fully revealed in China

Xiaomi has disclosed the specs of its second production car, an all-electric SUV called the YU7. The launch date and pricing will be announced in July, so let’s take a look at the numbers in the meantime.

The vehicle runs on the same architecture as the SU7 sedan. It measures 4,999 mm (195.3 inches) long, 1,996 mm (78 inches) wide and 1,608 mm (62.8 inches) tall with three meters (117.2 inches) of wheelbase. Depending on your chosen configuration, it may weigh from 2,140 to 2,460 kilograms, which corresponds to 4,717–5,423 pounds.

In its most basic version, the YU7 commands a single electric motor driving its rear wheels with 320 PS (316 hp / 235 kW) and 528 Nm (389 lb-ft) of torque. It needs 5.88 seconds, manufacturer-rated, to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph). The top speed is artificially limited to 240 km/h (149 mph). A 96.3 kilowatt-hour lithium-iron-phosphate battery supplies enough power to cover 835 kilometers (518.8 miles) on a charge – as long as those are Chinese kilometers or miles; mileage in countries with stricter standards may vary.

A middle-ground spec comes with a motor capable of 496 PS (489 hp / 365 kW) and 690 Nm (509 lb-ft). This one sprints to 100 km/h in 4.27 seconds, although the top speed stays unchanged. It also uses the same battery while consuming more power overall, so the range drops to 770 km (478 miles).

Finally, the YU7 Max AWD packs dual motors sending 691 PS (682 hp / 508 kW) and 866 Nm (639 lb-ft) of torque to all four wheels. The flagship zaps from standstill to 100 km/h in 3.23 seconds and can attain 253 km/h (157.2 mph). It also benefits from a larger 101.7-kWh battery featuring an “advanced chemical composition” for faster charging. Typically for EVs, the added capacity cancels out with the extra motor output, so it still doesn’t go farther than 760 km (472 miles) on a full charge. On the upside, Xiaomi says you can replenish enough juice for 620 km (385 miles) of driving in just 15 minutes.
