Audi unveils the e-tron Sportback

The coupe-shaped crossover SUV uses the e-tron chassis and runs on electric power, but it is still not quite the same as the regular e-tron.

The car measures 4,901 mm (16.08 feet) long and has 2,928 mm (9.61 ft.) of wheelbase. The slanted roof subtracts 20 mm (0.8 inches) from the headroom in the rear. The trunk offers 555 liters (19.6 cubic feet) of free space by default, expandable to 1,595 l (56.33 cu. ft.) with the rear seats folded. Then there is a small ‘frunk’ that adds 60 liters (2.1 cu. ft.) of storage space.

The aerodynamic styling of the Sportback translates into a drag ratio as low as 0.25, which in turn adds around 10 km (6.1 miles) to the range.

Paid options include video cameras for side mirrors and a brand-new headlight model called the Digital Matrix.

Customers may choose between two trim versions: 50 quattro and 55 quattro. The former packs 312 horsepower (230 kW), sprints 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 6.8 seconds and runs out of juice after 347 kilometers (215 miles) traveled. Its top speed is capped at 190 km/h (118 mph).

The latter packs dual electric motors jointly capable of 360 hp (268 kW) and 561 Nm (414 lb-ft) of torque. It sprints in 6.6 s and maxes out at 200 km/h (124 mph). The driving range is also better at 446 km (277 mi), and you can activate the Overboost feature to temporarily get 408 hp (304 kW) alongside with 664 Nm (490 lb-ft). This mode reduces the sprint time to 5.7 s.

Production will commence in Brussels, Belgium, at the same facility where the e-tron is currently being produced. Sales will launch in spring with the so-called ‘edition one’, which will additionally get a sports styling kit, the side video cameras, the LED Matrix headlights, 21-inch wheels, panoramic glass roof, custom-colored brake calipers, sport seats with bespoke finish, and more. Prices in Europe will begin from €71,350.
