Remember the mysterious BMW M8 prototype spied at the Nürburgring a few days ago? The car had air louvers instead of rear side windows, so we decided it could be a mid-engine concept. This is now officially debunked – and the test mule is due some repairs.
Witnesses of the crash that occurred hour ago report that the vehicle proceeded to collide with both sidewalls, was thrown to the curb, and stopped at the Stefan Bellof S section of the track, named so after the absolute North Loop champion.
Based on the latest pics provided, the test car had its front fenders damaged in the incident, and spotters add that the suspension broke at the front end. Apparently, the vehicle could no longer continue tests, so it was hastily wrapped in tarp and towed away.
Commenting on the incident, BMW put to rest the rumor that the M8 had a mid-engine layout, saying it was simply “trying out new parts” with this build.
