Alpina, which is now a part of BMW, has unveiled the next XB7 SUV based on the Bavarian automaker’s refreshed X7. We may now at its specifications and cabin shots.
In its previous iterations, the 4.4-liter V8 under the hood used to make 621 PS (613 hp / 457 kW) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque – same as stock. The update brings its power to 639 PS (630 hp / 470 kW). The torque stays unchanged, but is now available throughout the wider RPM range of 1,800–5,600. A new ECU and improved cooling also help things.
The eight-speed automatic transmission now uses Alpina paddle shifters and supports AWD via a self-locking differential. Getting from zero to 60 miles per hour (96.6 km/h) now takes 3.9 seconds (the earlier sprint time was given as 4.2 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h). The top speed stays the same at 290 km/h (180 mph).
In addition to the more powerful engine, the car gets suspension upgrades. This includes active sway bars and air-ride elements capable of adjusting clearance depending on the speed.
On the outside, you will recognize the new XB7 by its more elaborate bumpers and wheels coming in 21-inch and 23-inch sizes. The interior makes use of a new steering wheel and a new trim, which involved Lavalina leather and natural wood inserts. There are tuner’s logos all around, and the multimedia system boasts a new interface.
Prices in the United States begin at $145,000. Pricing in all other markets remains to be revealed.
