BMW reveals the specs of the low-end XM 50e

BMW has yet to introduce the third version of its XM SUV properly, but the BMW M website in Germany already has all the technical details listed online. Apparently, the ‘affordable’ 50e spec will be a hybrid just like all the rest, but will utilize an I6 engine instead of a V8.

As a result, the SUV will reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.1 seconds. For perspective, the standard X5 M is 1.2 seconds faster to the same acceleration.

The electric component of the powertrain stays the same across the entire XM range. It is a small electric motor built into the car’s eight-speed automatic transmission, adding 197 PS (194 hp / 145 kW) to the output. Combines with the inline six-pot mentioned above, the 50e sends 475 PS (469 hp / 349 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque to the wheels. The top speed is not specified, but the other XM models can go up to 290 km/h (180 mph) depending on the modification.

The company also promises a fuel expenditure as low as 1.4 liters per 100 kilometers, which translates into a cool 168 miles per U.S. gallon. The all-electric range amounts to 84 km (52 miles) and is just one kilometer (0.6 miles) better than the rest of the lineup. Adaptive suspension, active shock absorption and an M Sport differential are all included in the base trim level.

It remains unclear when the sales may start. Earlier reports said the XM 50e would be available exclusively in Europe.
