The leading worldwide brake system vendor, Brembo, has announced an innovative product called Sensify. It’s a fully electronic brake unit meant to be installed on all manner of vehicles using traditional hydraulic brakes. The production is already ongoing, and the company claims a major automaker is among its first customers – although without any further specifics.
Compared to the classical brake design, the electronic brake won’t impair the braking performance nearly as much if it fails on just one wheel. The system will automatically re-balance the load among the remaining mechanisms. That’s about all we know about it right now, and Brembo says most cars currently on the road can be easily retrofitted with Sensify. Different modifications will be offered to fit nearly every vehicle class.
Moving forward, the manufacturer plans to churn out several hundred thousand Sensify brake kits per year. We don’t know if this means cutting down on the production of traditional hydraulic-activated brakes.
