Deepal, a car brand co-founded between Changan and Huawei, has started taking orders for its new SUV, the G318. It starts from 175,900 Yuan and maxes out at 318,000 Yuan.
The off-roader is sized 5,010 x 1,985 x 1,895 mm with 2,880 mm of wheelbase and 278 mm of ground clearance. It has five seats and a spacious 818-liter trunk that can be further expanded to a cool 1,747 liters. The front seats can be folded back to form beds.
Both powertrain options available so far are hybrid and based on the same 1.5-liter engine rated at 150 PS (148 hp / 110 kW). The main difference is the motor count. The base spec drives the front axle with 252 PS (249 hp / 185 kW) and 310 Nm (229 lb-ft) of torque. The top spec has two motors and sends 430 PS (424 hp / 316 kW) along with 572 Nm (422 lb-ft) to all four wheels.
The entry-level Deepal G318 needs 8.3 seconds to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) from standstill, while its senior cousin manages the same in 6.3 seconds. All-electric mode range varies from 100 to 190 km (62–118 miles) depending on the spec, but a full tank extends the range to around 1,000 km (621 mi). Manufacturer-rated fuel economy starts from a minimum of 6.1 liters per 100 km (38.5 MPG).
Prices for the dual-motor configuration start at a low 199,900 Yuan, but the deliveries won’t begin until August.
