Chevrolet Seeker announced for China

Chevrolet has expanded its China lineup with a new crossover SUV called Seeker. It is larger than the country’s Tracker and Trailblazer models and comes powered by a rather powerful turbocharged engine. Sales will begin in the autumn.

The vehicle is 4,537 mm long, 1,823 mm wide and 1,564 mm tall with 2,700 mm of wheelbase. The overall design agrees with the marque’s other modern cars, but the internals and some of the details were co-designed between General Motors and SAIC Corp. Sculpted sides and a chrome insert at the front end look rather unusual for a Chevrolet, for example.

Different trim versions will also differ on the outside. The only version revealed so far is called ‘RS’ and comes with black trim pieces, 18-inch wheels and a bright yellow finish exclusive to the Seeker model in China.

Inside, there are two 10.25-inch displays and a multimedia system running on an operating system known as Xiaoxue, which is a local product. It supports Apple CarPlay, over-the-air updates and connected services. Physical controls are still present in surprising quantities. The steering wheel is sawn-off at the bottom, the seats flaunt sporty profiles, and red accents help liven things up.

When the Seeker RS ships, it will be available with the same 1.5-liter turbo-four engine rated at 179 PS (177 hp / 132 kW) as the marque’s other SUVs, plus a CVT and front-wheel drive. It is unclear whether any other options will be made available, and if so, when. Chevrolet doesn’t say anything about a possible international release, either.
