Celebrating its 100 years of presence on the market of Brazil, Chevrolet has unexpectedly debuted its revived Spark car, Motor1 reports. It’s not as new as you’d expect, though.
In reality, the all-electric Spark EUV shown at the celebratory event was just a Baojun Yep Plus made in China by SAIC. Chevrolet has a joint enterprise with SAIC in that country, so it’s not really surprising.
The launch date hasn’t been announced yet. According to the media covering the premiere, the rebadged car was completely identical to a stock Baojun Yep Plus expect for the, well, badges. Only the five-door version known on its domestic market as the Yep “Plus” will be available in Brazil.
The subcompact car is 3,996 mm (156 inches) long with 2,560 mm (exactly 100 inches) between the axles. The specifications haven’t been disclosed thus far, but the domestic version packs a 102-PS (101-hp / 75-kW) motor at the rear axle. It also has a 41.9-kWh battery pack that gives it up to 401 km (250 miles) of range.
This isn’t exactly the first badge-engineered Baojun car in the country, either, so it will likely compete against similar EVs from BYD Group in South America.
