The next car to wear the Citroen DS premium badge may be stylistically inspired by the iconic DS 19 known as The Goddess, Citroen CEO Olivier Francois said in an interview to Auto Express.
Rumor has it that the company plans on making the car all-electric and unveiling it in 2025, in time for the 70th anniversary of the original. The reality is more ambiguous than that. Francois never said that The Goddess was coming back – he simply said that the company felt it needed to borrow some style and class from it, make its next flagship EV “more sensual, inspiring and very French”.
We still expect the new car to have direct references to the famous old-timer, and Renault may bring similar styling cues into its cheaper models, too. The DS division argues that the heritage of the brand must not be forgotten, after all.
From the technical perspective, the company wants its resurrected Goddess to run on the STLA Large chassis developed by Stellantis, albeit with modifications. These will include the mandatory high-end hydraulic suspension with clearance adjustment and the corporation’s latest-and-greatest in battery tech: Renault hopes to squeeze at least 700 km (435 miles) of range out of it.
