Cupra Tindaya aspires to steal the show from Lamborghini Urus

VW Group automaker Cupra attended the last year’s IAA Mobility Expo in Munich with a mid-sized crossover SUV called the Tindaya (see video). It was only a concept back then, but the company has now confirmed that the production car is well underway. What’s more impressive, it is being designed as a more reasonably priced alternative to the Lambo Urus, among others.

The news come from autocar.co.uk quoting Cupra CEO Markus Haupt. According to him, the company had originally considered offering the Tindaya in the United States, but the ongoing tariff war made the executives reconsider it as a global product.

From the IAA show, we know that the Tindaya is a five-door, four-seat SUV featuring a gently sloped roofline and a particularly dynamic, high-speed exterior design. The body is 4,720 millimeters (185.8 inches) long. The radiator grille comes with a backlight, and the wheel arches are made larger-than-usual to accommodate bigger wheels. The spoke faces are polished to a mirror sheen, reflecting in the lower doors for a rather surreal, futuristic, yet elegant look.

All technical parameters remain to be revealed. Volkswagen confirmed that the Tindaya was built on its latest-and-greatest SSP platform equally well-suited for battery-electric vehicles and hybrids. The concept debuted with an internal combustion engine acting as a generator and dual e-motors driving the wheels with roughly 500 PS (493 hp / 368 kW). Since the SUV is poised to compete with the likes of the BMW iX3 and the Mercedes-Benz GLC EV, we suppose it may get a more capable powertrain as well as it inches closer to production in the next few years.
