Ferrari 458 Speciale runs manual thanks to tuners

U.S.-based tuning shop Modificata seems to be the world’s first company to have come up with a six-speed manual gearbox for the Ferrari 458 Speciale.

The 458 Speciale was Ferrari’s way to say goodbye to the non-turbocharged V8, and some of us expected manual transmission to be available as well. Unfortunately, the Italian supercar maker opted for a seven-speed DCT instead.

Replacing it with a six-speed manual box necessitated installing a new pedal set and expanding the center tunnel. For the shifter itself, the tuner opted for a gated design so appreciated by racers who need fast and precise shifts.

The video below shows the mod in action. Modificata points out that the car has three drive modes with it, but sadly does not specify whether the design will go into production or remain a one-off.
