One out of only 200 Ford RS200 rally cars produced for WRC Groupe B homologation purposes back in 1986 is up for grabs right now. Let’s see what justifies its six-digit price.
The Evolution series consisted of only 24 cars, each of which had round headlamps, a roof air intake system and a rear-mounted 2.1-liter turbo engine rated close to 600 PS (592 hp / 441 kW). A five-speed manual transmission delivered the momentum to all four wheels with the help of three lockable differentials that also made it suitable for drift stunts.
England-based Geoff Page Racing restored the engine a while ago, and it has since run fewer than 800 kilometers (500 miles). The repainted body is also in a top-notch shape, and the arches house 16-inch Speedline alloys wrapped in Falken FK451 tires sized 245/45.
Inside the cabin are non-adjustable bucket seats, a fire extinguisher, a tri-spoke steering wheel with a leather finish, and a new dashboard. Don’t go looking for modern safety aids and driver assists, though: there are none.
The current highest bid is $285,000, and the auction at Bring-a-Trailer.com closes tomorrow.
