Ford posted a teaser vid the other day that had the media wracking their brains as to what car it could be. For our part, we are confident that the unveiling on Tuesday, September 19, will be dedicated to a hybrid Ford Ranger – here’s why.
The company emphasized a while ago that the new Ranger generation was designed specifically with electrification in mind. However, until now, Ford hasn’t released or even announced any electrified Ranger trucks. It looks like the situation may change soon, though.
The automaker is already using a hybrid powertrain in its Kuga/Escape lineup, but it may be too low-end for a large and heavy pickup like the Ranger. As such, rumors are circulating that the Ranger HEV will utilize a new powertrain combining a larger 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine with a single electric motor. That would make it unique in the PHEV portfolio of Ford.
Whatever the actual case is, we will be learning more details on Tuesday next week, so stay tuned.
