General Motors seems to be considering a revival of the legendary Hammer series it abandoned nearly a decade ago. In compliance with the latest trends, the luxed-up military SUV might end up with a fully electric powertrain.
GM plans to launch production of several brand-new electric vehicles in 2021, and rumor has it that the iconic SUV series will be making a comeback then. The project will allegedly require U.S. $3 billion in investments, most of which will be needed to upgrade the factory in Detroit.
It is reported that two pickup trucks will also hit the assembly lines in the near future, but neither will wear the Hammer badge. The first one will emerge in 2021, and its performance version will follow a couple years later. Another SUV will go into production in 2023.
At this moment, no official confirmation exists on whether the Hummer brand name will be resurrected or not, or whether (according to another rumor) the alleged e-SUV will be produced under the Cadillac banner instead.
