Hyundai showed us the exterior of the fifth-generation Santa Fe a month ago, but the official presentation of the car complete with its technical specifications has only taken place today in South Korea.
The new take on the crossover SUV looks more masculine, and the car is perceptibly bigger than before. Compared to the old version, the new one is longer by 45 mm (1.8 in), taller by 35 mm (1.4 in) and has a wheelbase larger by 50 mm (2 in). This translates into extra legroom at the second and third seat rows. The trunk size also wins: owners now get 725 liters of space for their luggage instead of 634 (25.6 cubic feet instead of 22.4).
Diesels are gone from the powertrain list, leaving only petrol four-cylinder options. The most basic one produces 194 PS (191 hp / 143 kW) and 246 Nm (181 lb-ft) of torque. A top spec is available with 281 PS (277 hp / 207 kW) and 422 Nm (416 hp / 310 kW). Still, in its promotional materials, the company places the biggest emphasis on a plug-in hybrid Santa Fe with a combined output of 235 PS (232 hp / 173 kW).
