The U.S. automotive giant plans to get rid of all chrome trim bits in its vehicles for good, citing environmental concerns.
According to Stellantis, the hexavalent chrome commonly used in industrial coatings is a dangerous toxin that poses a health concern for mankind as the pollution grows. While other coating methods exist, they cannot attain a level of adhesion quite as good as the hexavalent method.
The recently introduced all-electric Jeep Wagoneer S will be the corporation’s first production vehicle to have zero chrome components in design.
