Lancia Ypsilon gets spied during a naked photoshoot

Lancia’s plans to unveil its long-anticipated new Ypsilon hatchback next month may have been rendered less relevant now that a number of photos of the car emerged online, leaving nothing to the imagination.

The shots were made during an official promo shoot, so the Ypsilon was completely free of camouflage. It looked nothing like the previous generation and more like the Italian automaker’s Pu+Ra HPE Concept. The similarities include Y-shaped headlight signatures, unusual taillights, a pronounced spoiler and the general body shape. Note also the boxy-looking front bumper with a large intake in it – this is the first time we are seeing something like that from Lancia.

Unofficial sources claim that the new Ypsilon will be an all-electric vehicle rated at 156 PS (154 hp / 115 kW). There are no visible tailpipes anywhere, so it could be true. Still, Lancia will most likely also offer a hybrid variant with a small-displacement engine under the hood: that’s what the air intake is for.

The photographer has even managed to snap a few shots of the cabin, revealing a couple of large displays. We already know on official terms that the five-door hatchback is coming to the market with a proprietary infotainment system named SALA and a round table on the transmission tunnel meant to evoke associations with the furnishings of classic Italian living rooms.
