Lixiang i9 begins pre-production tests

The largest all-electric Lixiang SUV is getting ready for prime time, reports autohome.cn reposting a trio of spy shots.

According to the publication, the number 9 in the model designation suggests that the vehicle is about as large as the L9 hybrid. In turn, the letter “i” probably implies an all-electric powertrain, like in the company’s existing i8 EV (see video).

The vehicle still wears impervious camo in addition to fake body panels, but some conclusions can still be made. For one, there is a LiDAR visible above the windshield, meaning that the full-size SUV comes equipped with a semi-autonomous driving system. For another, the front and the rear ends make it look more closely related to the Li i8 than the Li Mega minivan despite the size difference.

All technical details will have to wait. The marque’s latest EV – the i8 – runs on an 800-volt system, so we fully expect it to be the case here as well. It also packs twin motors jointly rated at 544 PS (536 hp / 400 kW). Batteries come in two sizes. A 90.1-kWh pack is good for 670 km (416 miles), while a 97.8-kWh pack lasts 720 km (447 miles) before charging becomes necessary. In all likelihood, the i9 will inherit at least some of the same tech.
