Maserati MC20 GT2 touches down in Belgium

Maserati has taken the wraps off its latest racecar, the MC20 GT2. The track weapon will show itself in action at the Spa 24 Hours in Belgium this weekend.

The coupe is largely based on the street-legal MC20 and made GT2-compliant, as its name clearly states. It uses the company’s Nettuno V6 3.0 engine turbocharged to 630 PS (621 hp / 463 kW). While the road-going version uses an eight-speed dual-clutch A/T, the racer opts for a six-speed sequential transmission with paddle shifters for rapid-fire switching. The car also takes advantage of a purpose-designed limited-slip differential and rides on 18-inch forged centerlock wheels.

The bodywork is made of composite materials and generally mimics the MC20, but not without modifications to minimize drag and improve cooling. New additions include front bumper canards, a splitter, a massive rear wing, an aggressive diffuser and a roof scoop, among other things.

Despite its track-only status, the MC20 GT2 comes with an air conditioner pre-installed. You can go further and customize it with a passenger seat, a reversing camera and a tire pressure control system.
