The celebrity driver’s 44-year-old 911 Safari is far from ideal condition, but Block drove it to the finish line of the East Africa Safari Classic in February this year, and it is currently being sold ‘as is’ straight from that race. The bidding is at £54,600 (nearly $69,000 USD).
Tuthill Porsche built the car based on a standard Porsche 911 SC, restoring and reinforcing the body, refurbishing the interior and overhauling the drivetrain. They also replaced the glass dome with Plexiglas and wrapped the whole in a custom racing livery.
The rally-prepped 911 comes equipped with robust bottom and body protection, new mirrors and a roof scoop. Inside the cabin reside an extensive roll cage, bucket seats, a special dashboard, a different steering wheel, and a fire extinguishing system.
The 3.0-liter flat-six engine under the hood was reworked for heavy rally racing, and makes 280 PS (276 hp / 206 kW). A modified manual transmission sends the power to the wheels. The suspension benefits from reinforced links and adjustable shocks.
The East Africa Safari Classic is a nine-day event that sees its participants travel around 5,000 kilometers (over 3,000 miles).
According to the seller, the vehicle is street-legal in the UK. The auction closes on Sunday.
