Renault 5 sprouts an off-road version

German off-road specialists from Delta 4x4 have devised a tuning plan for a rather unlikely vehicle – the all-electric Renault 5 (see video). The normally city-bound compact hatchback will cost approximately €15,000–20,000 to convert into a cross-country machine.

Chassis is where most of the modifications took place. 18-inch wheels were put into the arches along with wider and deeper-threaded Loder tires. The 3D renderings also depict the car wearing grey fender flares against an off-white body with custom graphics, but Delta4x4 assures us other options will be available.

An expedition rack was added to the roof to help with carrying things like off-road equipment, canisters, storage boxes or spare wheels. A LED bar was added to the rack, and four extra floodlights were installed at the front end, endowing the EV with rally car vibes.

The powertrain stayed, and likely will stay, stock. This means that you are still stranded with a FWD electric car pushing no more than 150 PS (148 hp / 110 kW) to the wheels. Come to think of it, the Renault 5 has a sportier and more powerful twin called the Alpine A290, but it’s unclear whether the package is compatible with that one.
