Car tuning
At last year’s Essen Motor Show, car tuner AC Schnitzer teased us with a number of custom parts it was developing for the entire BMW 8 Series. Most of these are officially available starting today, so let us draw up a summary of what is on offer.
Beginning with the power upgrades, the tuner offers a sizeable boost for the 3.0-liter turbo-six diesel engine of the 840d. In its stock form, the 840d comes rated at 320 hp (239 kW) and 680 Nm (502 lb×ft) of torque. The upgrade takes it to 380 hp (283 kW) and 780 Nm (575 lb×ft) of torque.
The M850i, which comes powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo gasoline V8, gets a push to 620 hp (462 kW) and 840 Nm (620 lb×ft) of torque. This represents a 90 hp (67 kW) and 90 Nm (66 lb×ft) increase over the factory values.
The firm offers to upgrade the exhaust system of the BMW 8 Series with a sports-grade muffler and tips available in three finishes (Sport, Carbon Sport, and Sport Black). Owners of the G15 version may also opt for a suspension lowering kit (-20 mm / -0.8 inches).
Then there is a new carbon body kit consisting of a front splitter with side flaps, hood air intakes, side skirts, rear diffuser, rear spoiler, and a racing-grade rear wing.
AC Schnitzer ships two kinds of wheels for the new 8 Series, both measuring 20 inches in diameter. These include AC3 Forged rims and AC1 alloys.
Interior options are relatively few and subtle: there are new pedal pads, a footrest, and a key holder, all made of aluminum.
