Kia K4 hatchback shows up at NYIAS-2024

Kia has come to the New York International Auto Show with a new sedan named the K4, which is set to replace the Forte and Cerato models worldwide. However, it apparently brought along its hatchback version as well.

Both cars have nearly the same front fascia design with only minor color accents and a fake-looking skid plate to differentiate the hatchback by. The rear end is a whole different story, though. Both cars sport a U-shaped taillight arrangement, but the hatchback has a different bumper, c-pillars with black inserts and a tailgate with a spoiler. The flared fenders and the concealed door handles are more or less the same.

Aside from its rugged looks, the five-door car boasts a lightweight body kit made or unfinished plastic. As such, it looks like Kia might want to advertise it as the more practical option for nature lovers. Also, while the sedan has a fixed 413 liters (14.6 cubic feet) of trunk space, the hatchback has more space by default and even lets you fold down the back seats. Accessing the trunk is arguably more convenient, too.

The Kia K4 is set to go on sale in the United States as the sedan first, reaching the market in the second half of the year. It will get a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine with 149 PS (147 hp / 111 kW) and a 1.6-liter turbo option with 193 PS (190 hp / 142 kW) at its disposal. Both versions will be available in the slightly sported-up GT Line spec. The hatchback variant will join it later; the details are unknown.
