Made in China: Tesla decides to import Model Y to Europe

According to the latest announcement by Tesla, the Gigafactory Berlin will not open until at least late 2021, so customers in Europe will either have to wait until that factory is up and running or opt for a Model Y SUV made in China.

Tesla points out that the first examples will be imported into Europe next month. On the other hand, a dealership in Belgium claims it will be receiving the first batch in a week’s time.

The Tesla Model Y hit the assembly lines in California, USA in early 2020 and at the Gigafactory Shanghai in January 2021.

As soon as the Berlin facilities start operation, the company will stop importing China-made EVs to Europe. Those patient enough to wait another half-year are promised larger traction batteries with greater driving range.
