Tesla once again hopes for Roadster reveal this year

While the name “Tesla Roadster” has taken on a somewhat tired sound over the years, the electric car company seems hellbent on producing its severely delayed flagship. Lars Moravy, one of Tesla execs, said a few months ago that the premiere could even happen in 2025, and the same sentiment has now been voiced by another higher-up.

Franz von Holzhausen, Tesla Design Director, confirmed during a recent Ride the Lightning podcast that the Roadster development was in full swing. He added that a reveal should take place before the end of the year. Asked when the customer deliveries may begin, he replied, “within the next two years.” In other words, we have until late 2027 to wait.

Holzhausen also took this opportunity to assure the audience that the unique advantages of the car would offset the long wait. The company has polished its EV powertrain technologies since the reveal of the first prototype in 2017. This has a nice sound to it, but Carscoops rightfully reminds us that similar promises were made with regard to the Tesla Cybertruck. Many of us were waiting for an innovative and still affordable electric pickup, but when it arrived it had none of the specs originally promised.
