Toyota will not be showing its new Alphard minivan until June 21, but AutoHome has already posted images of it allegedly made during an ad photoshoot for China.
The monumental radiator grille stays in place, but the pattern is completely different. The headlights and taillights also look different. The front bumper retains two fang-like attachments with built-in DRLs, but they have been reshaped, too.
The overall silhouette looks sportier now with a zigzagging shoulder line descending towards the rear end. The glass dome has also been reworked. The rear section is almost rectangular thanks to the new bumper, but large, rounded taillights prevent it from looking too boxy.
Some of the cabin can be discerned, too. It looks like the shoot was performed with the top trim version housing two separate second-row seats – note the massive armrests and headrest. Everything suggests that footrests are also going to be included.
It seems likely that the recently introduced second-gen Lexus LM (see video) will supply the platform for the new Alphard. If so, it may ship with an assortment of four-cylinder engines – naturally aspirated 2.4L and 2.5L, a few turbocharged options and a couple electrified ones with up to 211 PS (208 hp / 155 kW) at the output end. The CVT will likely remain the only transmission, but a choice between FWD and AWD should remain.
