Shortly before the LA Auto Show, Toyota has decided to dispense with the mystery and unveil the Camry facelift. In North America, it is now available exclusively as a hybrid with four cylinders, no turbo, and an optional RWD electric motor. The dealerships will receive it in the spring next year.
On the outside, the new Camry looks like any other recent Toyota with its C-shaped headlights and sloping hood. The front bumper retains its vertical inserts and large air intake, but the pattern inside depends on the trim level. Those opting for the sportier trims will get 19-inch wheels and the company’s signature bumper-ends, as well as a compact rear diffuser and a trunk lid spoiler.
The FWD version of the saloon gets 228 PS (225 hp / 168 kW) of hybrid power. Going AWD will bump the output only minimally – to 235 PS (232 hp / 173 kW). The optional electric motor on the rear axle automatically assists the main four-pot during acceleration or when driving on slippery roads.
The non-hybrid ICE Camry is no longer available. According to Toyota, the V6 option wasn’t particularly popular among customers, who only picked it in 7% of cases.
A peek inside the cabin reveals a new dashboard and more comfortable seats with bigger headrests and new filler. In the most basic trim, the infotainment system comes with an 8-inch display and the digital dash is only 7 inches large. The top spec packs two 12.3-inch displays instead.
