Next-gen Wuling Mini EV announced in China

The second generation of the Wuling Mini EV is expected to debut in the coming few months. In the meantime, here are the first images.

Judging by the pics, the new model looks drastically different from the old one – quite surprising, considering how well-loved the original was. It also gets whopping 260 mm (10 inches) of extra wheelbase, for a total of 2,190 mm (85.5 inches). This may have something to do with a new five-door version that Wuling announced today – the first generation had a three-door body design with no other options.

Out of the two motor options it debuted with, the new car will only keep the more powerful 41-PS (40-hp / 30-kW) one. This version can develop a top speed of 100 km/h (62 mph).

The original Wuling Mini EV was announced by the SAIC-GM-Wuling joint enterprise in 2020. It was a simply designed, miniature and cheap electric car that proceeded to become a bestseller in China and spawn numerous imitations over the years. It remains to be seen whether the continuation lives up to the high expectations everyone has of it.
