Acura gets rid of ZDX not even two years into production

The fully electric SUV known as the Acura ZDX has dropped out of production well ahead of the schedule, CarBuzz reports quoting an official statement from the automaker. In early September, the company promised us a facelift, but it will never arrive now that the production has ended.

Commenting on the decision, Acura admitted that it had to “adapt to the market” and meet the customers’ expectations while sticking to its strategy. In other words, there was not enough demand. Deliveries of the first ZDX units only started in May 2024; the company pledges to provide full support and maintenance to all cars shipped.

Interestingly enough, the North American office of Honda and Acura reported what they called “record-high EV sales” in early September. The two brands managed to find buyers for 44,465 all-electric and electrified vehicles by that date. However, the ZDX SUV turned out the worst performer by far with only 520 units sold. Even its closely related Honda twin, the Prologue EV, had found more than 9,300 buyers by the same date. With the impending cancellation of EV subsidies in the United States, one would expect livelier sales, but it looks like some models are more desirable than the others.

Even after effectively burying the ZDX, Acura remains committed to its electrification strategy. The company confirmed to CarBuzz that work was underway on two new hybrids and another all-electric SUV, the RSX. It had a prototype debut this summer and is slated for late 2026 launch.
