Bugatti sheds some light on the passive safety features of the Bolide

The French hypercar maker has revealed that the composite monocoque of its Bolide hypercar was designed to comply with the strictest FIA endurance racing standards, endowing it with a class-leading level of passive safety.

The company specifically highlighted multi-point safety harnesses capable of withstanding extreme loads and an automatic fire extinguishing system. The seats are also FIA-compliant, and the driver can take advantage of active electronic assists.

Bugatti also revealed some details about its monocoque testing routines. Apparently, the flip test involved subjecting the a-pillars to a combined load of 7.5 metric tons (16,534 pounds). According to the FIA regulations, there must be no structural deformities within the 100mm (3.9-inch) radius of the spot where the pressure was applied during the test. The a-pillar itself is supposed to cave in slightly under the impact, but no more than by 50 mm (2 inches).

Another highly impressive feat is the design of the headrest mounting bracket. Weighing in at 300 grams (0.66 pounds), the bracket is 3D-printed and can withstand loads up to 700 kilograms (1,543 pounds).
