China’s most expensive SUV so far goes on sale in October, starts from $150k

The YangWang U8 that BYD previewed in May is now officially available for pre-ordering in China. The most impatient buyers will get a special trim called Premium Edition, which will start from 1,089,000 (nearly $150,000) when it ships in October, Car News China reports.

Later on, the car will receive an Off-road Master Edition complete with a redesigned front bumper, a snorkel pipe, a roof-mounted rack and an access ladder.

The model is 5.3 meters (17.4 feet) long with 3 meters (9.84 feet) of wheelbase and rides on e4 technological underpinnings. Its DiSus-P suspension system is hydro-pneumatic and can adjust ground clearance in a range of 150 mm (6 inches).

Every wheel has a 220kW motor installed for a total of 1,197 PS (1,181 hp / 880 kW) and 1,280 Nm (944 lb-ft) of torque heading for the wheels. A Blade-series LiFePo4 battery pack built into the chassis provides 49.05 kilowatt-hours of power storage and runs dry after just 180 km (112 miles) of CLTC-rated driving. This is not an issue thanks to a 2.0T range-extender engine on board, though, which gives you 1,000 km (621 miles) of range in hybrid mode. The sprint time is 3.6 seconds, and the top speed is capped at 200 km/h (124 mph).

The battery supports charging power up to 110 kW, letting you top it up from 30 to 80 percent in 18 minutes. It can also provide up to 6kW of reserve power to auxiliary sources, powering up appliances and households for up to 25 hours straight.
