Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa imitation hits $0.5M on BaT

Around three decades ago, Tempero Coach & Motor Company based in New Zealand produced a unique replica of the legendary Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa that won the 12 Hours of Sebring in 1959. Being among the rarest and most desirable Ferraris around, the original Testa Rossa models tend to sell north of $30 million, but this replica is no joke, either.

It features a handcrafted all-aluminum body atop a stainless-steel tube-frame and looks barely distinguishable from its historical predecessor, even in closeups. Aside from meticulously reproduced proportions, it boasts 16-inch wired wheels and hand-painted badges all around.

No less impressive is the engine, which is based on a 3.0-liter GTO Engineering V12 and is said to output about as much power and torque as the original. A Tremec five-speed manual gearbox sends roughly 304 PS (300 hp / 224 kW) to the rear end.

The replica made its way from New Zealand to the United States in the 1990s. It has belonged to the same owner since 2006. The bidding has already reached $500,000 with a day left on the clock, but it remains to be seen whether the sale goes through. The owner tried to list it back in March this year and turned out a $522,500 top bid.
