The part-electric Tank 400 has been updated in China with minor exterior and interior tweaks, as well as a new high-end powertrain option. The launch date and pricing are pending, but let’s take a look at the numbers.
The new Tank 400 Hi4-Z utilizes the same hybrid system as its senior cousin Tank 500, getting 870 PS (858 hp / 640 kW) out of a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine and two electric motors. It can cover more than 200 km (124 miles) on its 59.05-kWh battery pack alone.
The old Tank 400 Hi4T spec stays largely unchanged, hitting the wheels with 408 PS (402 hp / 300 kW) via a nine-speed automatic transmission. The biggest improvement concerns the battery, which now stores 37.1 kilowatt-hours of energy instead of just 20. As a result, the SUV can do 105 km (65 miles) per charge.
On the exterior side of things, the 2026 Tank 400 stays recognizable with flared fenders, its signature headlights and rugged aesthetic. Novelty boils down to a rectangular front bumper with integrated LEDs, displaced badges and a tailgate that’s no longer side-hinged. These minor modifications make the SUV 21 mm (0.8”) shorter than before the facelift.
Inside, the transmission tunnel looks different and houses a wireless charging pad, while the selector moves to behind the steering wheel. The vehicle ships with an optional assist package that uses a roof-mounted LiDAR for semi-autonomous driving.
Aside from the hybrid, customers in China get a gas-powered Tank 400. Whether this one will remain available in the next model year or dropped from production remains to be announced.
