Hongqi has unveiled its next hybrid SUV called the HS6 at a car expo in Changchun, China. Sized similarly to the already familiar HS7 model, it offers a part-electric alternative to it.
Designed by a creative team led by Giles Taylor of Rolls-Royce fame, the crossover has many stylistic nods to the British brand. These include a large chrome grille with vertical slats creating a waterfall-like effect, similarly shaped LED lights at all four corners and a red stripe running down from the hood onto the grille.
The interior houses twin touchscreens installed in the middle of the dash and immediately to the right. The transmission selector has moved to the steering column, freeing up space on the tunnel for some cup holders and a single wireless phone charger. Physical buttons are barely present, with most in-car functions accessible from the infotainment display.
Size-wise, the HS6 is 4,925 mm (192.4 inches) long, 1,970 mm (77 in) wide and 1,740 mm (68 in) tall with 2,925 mm (114.3 in) between the axles. The powertrain consists of a 1.5-liter engine and a single electric motor with so far undisclosed specifications. What we do know is that there will be two battery sizes to choose from: 23.9 kWh for 123 km (76.4 miles) and 39.5 kWh for 205 km (127.4 miles) of range per charge.
Hongqi let it slip earlier that the HS6 was slated for launch in Europe as well as China. It’s still unknown when that may happen, though. By 2028, the company expects to be offering 15 different models in 25 countries across Europe.
