Car Tuning

The SEMA Battle of the Builders 2018 award goes to Detroit Speed

The recently concluded SEMA show in Las-Vegas hosted hundreds of tuned and restored cars. The main prize of the event this year went to the Detroit Speed team, which had managed to completely restore and upgrade a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro.

The tuner spent several years working on what it called the TUX Project. The engineers had to design the chassis from scratch and replace virtually all parts with their modern alternatives. Some highlights include the QuadraLink rear wheel suspension, the FearFX differential and the BAER brakes, but the list can go on almost indefinitely.

The old five-liter engine made way for a more powerful Chevrolet LS3 V8 painted vivid orange and equipped with a supercharger. The unit was set to work in conjunction with a Bowler Performance six-speed manual transmission.

The exhaust system of the Chevrolet Camaro TUX has been designed and built from scratch.

The body of the car was polished, all rust removed and some elements replaced. It now sports a new bulging hood cover alongside many other, minor details. There are also new chrome-coated, five-spoke Forgeline wheels that almost disappear in their arches owing to an extremely low suspension.

The interior makes use of premium-grade, black M&M Hot Rod leather, and offers sports seats, a center console with a touchscreen display and a custom handcrafted steering wheel…

But that’s enough talking. A photo is worth a thousand words, right? Have a look at these, you’ll be impressed.
