H&R unveils lowering springs for the Mercedes AMG GT-R

Aftermarket suspension manufacturer H&R is a long-standing technical partner of the Mercedes team in the DTM racing series. It is therefore not surprising that it resolved to find a way and improve the suspension of the street-legal Mercedes AMG GT-R racecar. Still, can you really do anything with the already incredibly sophisticated AMG Ride Control system mounting a 585-horsepower car on its shoulders? Perhaps not much, and chances are you will break more than you fix.

Nonetheless, following months of active R&D, the company came out with a set of lowering springs for the model. Once installed, they reduce the clearance by 15 to 30 millimeters (0.6 – 1.2 inches) on the front axle and 10 to 25 mm (0.4” – 1”) on the rear one.

You might be justified in calling the difference minimal, but the company claims that it still improves the suspension response times and makes the vehicle more stable during sharp turns.

H&R also offers Trak+ wheel spacers that can be useful if you want to fine-tune your stock or aftermarket wheels inside their respective arches. A spring set would set you back €558, while spacers begin at €45.
