Lamborghini considering a successor to the LM002 line

Italian luxury carmaker Lamborghini is currently discussing the pros and cons of releasing a new SUV model to serve as the continuation of the LM002 line. Unlike the Urus, the new SUV will be fit for actual off-road use.

Apparently, the management of the company wants the vehicle to be at least on par with the Jeep Wrangler – and its own LM002, for that matter – in terms of technical specs and capabilities. The current generation of the Lamborghini Urus might provide a technical platform for it, but designing a new chassis from scratch is also being viewed upon as a viable option.

The original Lamborghini LM002 SUV used to be manufactured in 1986 through 1993 as the Italian company’s first and last production vehicle released as part of the Lamborghini Militaria program for supplying cars to the U.S. army. It packed a 5.2-liter V12 engine rated at 426 hp (318 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lbft) of torque, and was also available with a larger 7.2-liter V12.

In a limited sense, you could call the Lamborghini Urus the successor to the LM002, but there are not many similarities between the two. You can currently purchase the Urus with the optional Off-Road Package, which includes air suspension (max. 248 mm / 9.7 inches of ground clearance), reinforced bumpers, and stainless steel under shields.
