Ferrari Special Projects works on its most extreme racecar so far

Ferrari has posted an image of the Prototipo, a one-off, non-street-legal supercar that its Special Projects division has been working upon for some time. A representative of the division said it was its “most extreme” project to date.

Based on the official video, the car sports a visual carbon fiber body adorned with a huge rear wing and front fenders with air intake louvers.

The interior of the vehicle is rather Spartan in terms of features, and houses a Formula 1-style steering wheel. It is obvious that at this stage of development the Prototipo is a pure racecar; it might or might not get a street approval later.

It looks like the car comes based on the LaFerrari chassis and packs a hybrid powertrain composed of a 6.3-liter V12 engine coupled with a seven-speed semi-automatic transmission and an electric motor with undisclosed characteristics. The total power rating of the drivetrain amounts to 963 hp (718 kW). Driven by the same setup, the LaFerrari sprints to 100 km/h (62 mph) in three seconds flat and eventually hits 350 km/h (217 mph).

Special Projects is also responsible for the production of such models as the F12 TRS, the 458 MM Speciale and the Ferrari SP38.
