1st Chevrolet С8 Corvette Stingray fetches $3M at auction

Barret-Jackson holds regular car auctions in Scottsdale, Arizona, USA, with some exotics occasionally fetching seven-digit prices. The first production copy of the Chevrolet С8 Corvette Stingray just set a new high score with U.S. $3,000,000.

Rick Hendrick of the Hendrick Motorsports NASCAR team purchased the vehicle for his personal collection, which already includes the first unit of the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat bought six years ago at the same auction.

Barret-Jackson will be redirecting the profit from the deal to charity, helping open new schools in Detroit.

Speaking of the auction’s earlier big deals, the first A90 Toyota Supra to have rolled off the assembly lines fetched U.S. $2.1 million, while the first Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 cost the winning bidder a million USD.
